Hawkesbury River

River that runs for 120 kilometres from the confluence of the Nepean and Grose rivers west of Sydney to Broken Bay north of Sydney. The Darug and Darkinjung people who lived along the river before European settlement called it Dyarubbin.

The Hawkesbury River was a natural boundary for Aboriginal lands and for European settlement. An important transport route, its use changed as first ferry, then road and rail bridges opened up land to the north and west.
