Inner southern suburb, named for the British prime minister the Earl of Rosebery who visited Sydney in 1883-84. Planned by John Sulman as a model suburb for both housing and industry in 1911-1920, it was the site of an early racecourse, then an industrial area, it is now being redeveloped and gentrified.
