River that rises at Appin in the upland swamps of the O'Hares Creek catchment, and flows 80 kilometres north and east to meet Botany Bay at Taren Point, in Sydney's southern suburbs. The total catchment is over 930 square kilometres managed by a large number of local government authorities and is the main tributary of Botany Bay.

Gibbs, Thomas

Surgeon who was a passenger on board the Edward Lombe when it was wrecked entering Sydney Harbour on 25 August 1834. He and the ship's second mate George Norman were killed when trying to fix a line from the boat to the shore at Middle Head during the storm. His body was found floating between the Heads. He was formally identified by the ship's first mate Thomas Marshall at an inquest on 6 September.

Ross Gibson is Professor of Contemporary Arts at the University of Sydney. His research includes writing, film and art installations. His serialised photographic poem, AccidentMusic, was published online weekly in partnership with the Justice and Police Museum in Sydney from 2010 to 2013. In 2007 he worked with Kate Richards on a collaborative project called Bystander, an interactive audiovisual environment with the Justice and Police Museum Sydney.
