Dalley Street

Part of the warren of tiny lanes and courtyards that grew up along the Tank Stream, it was previously named for Queen Charlotte. This section was Queen's Court and originally lined up with Charlotte Place (now Grosvenor Street) across George Street.

Dalley, Catherine

Irish housemaid from Kinsale in County Cork who was tried for stealing sheets and sentenced to seven years transportation, arriving in Sydney in 1825 with her daughter. John Dalley applied for a ticket of leave to marry her which was initially rejected and so the couple were only able to marry once Catherine was granted her freedom. The couple moved to Sydney and her husband ran a successful store on George Street. The couple had seven children together, however, four of them died before they reached adulthood.

Dalley, Eleanor Jane

Daughter of the wealthy wine merchant William Long who later married the politician and lawyer, William Bede Dalley. She died at their residence, Clairvaux House, of typhoid fever leaving six young children.

Storekeeper who was transported to Sydney for burglary. He lived in Bathurst and applied for a ticket of leave to marry Catherine Spillane. The couple moved to Sydney and Dalley ran a successful store on George Street. The couple had seven children together, however, four of them died before they reached adulthood.

Postmistress of Randwick's first post office on Belmore Road. She died suddenly at her residence in Randwick and newspapers seized on the story reporting it as the 'Randwick Sensation'. A report in the Australian Star claimed Dargin's body was discovered by her niece, Elsie Lena Richards, who was actually her illegitimate daughter; a situation that caused controversy in the community and called into question her position as postmistress. By the end of the year Elsie Richards and her father and Dargin's brother in law, James Richards, sued the Australian Newspaper Company for libel and damages, settling for 255 pounds in damages.

Darling Causeway

A ridge in the Blue Mountains Range from its junction with the Bell Range in the north at Bell, southwards for about 9 kilometres to the Great Western Highway at Mount Victoria. It is traversed by the Main Western Railway and Main Road 184 and is the divide between the Grose River in the east and the River Lett in the west.
It is now crossed by a road of the same name.

Waterway to the west of the city once surrounded by wharves, goods yards, woolstores and factories which contributed enormously to the city's economic wealth. The former rail lines and goods yards were transformed from commercial port to a recreational and pedestrian precinct in the 1980s.

Darling Harbour - Sydney Yards Goods Line

Railway line specifically for freight built in 1855 between the Sydney yards, near today's Central Station, and Darling Harbour. Extensions to the line followed in the early 20th century. Part of the line was converted into an elevated urban pedestrian walkway and park, called The Goods Line, in 2012.
