Bellevue

Colonial mansion on Glebe Point of late Victorian Italianate design. It was only used as a home until 1925 when a timber mill was operated from and around the site. When Blackwattle Bay Park was created by landfill in the 1970s only the house was retained due to community lobbying and currently operates as a cafe and community centre.

A large house with outbuildings, stables etc. built in the early 1830s on the Cooks River Road near Newtown by Alexander Brodie Spark, and then owned by businessman John Lord. Most of its grounds were subdivided into building allotments in the early 1840s and the house was renamed Holmwood in the 1850s. The building had been demolished by 1893.

Belmore

Traditional land of the Bediagal people, Belmore was once all forest. Early European settlers cut the timber for firewood and later for railway sleepers, and farmed crops and poultry. In 1869 the district was named Belmore in honour of the new governor of New South Wales. When the railway came through in 1895, subdivision accelerated and after World War I surburban development was rapid. Migration and home units have changed Belmore since the 1960s.

Locality on the peninsula at North Bondi. The name, a distortion of Benbecula, was given by Governor Macquarie who came from Benbecula in North Uist in the Hebrides, Scotland.
